Remember Me: Part 2

Rusu shifted uncomfortably in Martin’s hand, unable to maintain eye-contact with Jake as his gaze almost seemed to be glued to her.

Then again she could hardly blame the guy, here they had all been friends for years and suddenly to them she might as well of become a living 3 to 4-inch tall doll over night, or “tinker bell” as Martin would tease her.

“S-so...umh, what movie did you guys wanna watch?” she asked meekly, her voice barley above a whisper at this point as she tried to calm her shaking nerves.

Jake took no notice of her skittish behaviour and grinned brightly down at her in his best friend’s hand, acting like nothing was out of the ordinary.

“A movie sounds great!” he laughed loudly, forgetting to mind the volume of his voice as he turned to the living room, flopping on the couch like he owned the place.

Martin on the other hand was quite used to this behaviour, both boys had been this way for years, calling the other’s house a second home for as long as both boys could remember.

“Get your feet off my couch man” Martin said in slight annoyance, rolling his eyes as he shoved off the slightly muddy with his free hand, that didn’t occupy his little fiancé in it.

Rusu clung to Martin’s fingers, trying not to eye how much larger Jake was compared to her fiancé..

Jake had always been the taller one of the two, having a good head and a half over Martin, Rusu was always smaller than both boys, being a few inches shorter than Martin when they were all relatively the same size.

But now that they were GIANTS compared to her, she could fit in a hand with plenty of room to spare... trapped in a fist should they so wish it,  and she could do nothing about it, unable to even defeat a finger bigger than she was tall if she tried.

She shuddered away from those thoughts and tried to bury them deep within her mind, she knew Martin and Jake would never do that to her....

Still...the fear was there, whether she wanted it to be or not.

“S-so... how does a comedy sound? Maybe a thriller or an action movie?” Rusu suggested, glancing up to look at her gigantic fiancé, seeing the underside of his jawline as he spoke to Jake.

“I was thinking more like a cute romantic comedy?” he smirked, finally glancing down at her as he joined Jake on the couch and grabbed the remote off the coffee table.

Rusu made a face at his suggestion and he had to chuckle, he knew more than anyone else she hated sappy cute movies or anything sad, being a very sensitive girl for such things she always cried during sad scenes of a movie.

“I’m joking” Martin assured her as he gently set her on his knee closest to Jake, he hoped she might get used to him quicker this way.

Rusu instantly tensed up once she was placed so openly on his knee, feeling very exposed and unsheltered from the large expanse of his living room.

The landscape itself was terrifying with or without Martin in it, it was the same reason she hated being in rooms alone without him. It was terrifying to be so out-sized by everything around you, she got that same sense of vulnerability now..

Jake’s presence terrified her, even if he didn’t mean to. Being in the presence of one giant was already more than she could take in on a daily basis, now she was practically trapped between TWO.

Rusu tried to supress a whimper of intimidation as she turned her back towards Jake as she began to slowly scramble away from him to a more secure place on Martin.

Martin, who had already predicted her little plan quickly cut it short, without saying a word, he scooped her up in his hand and placed her back on his knee in the same position.
Rusu had hardly time to even squeak as he invaded her personal bubble so quickly, handling her like she was no more than a pet hamster...

Jake quirked a brow up at the sight, seeing Martin’s face was glued to the now flashing screen of the tv, he absently wondered when Martin had even turned it on...he hadn’t even noticed.

“You okay Rusu?” Jake asked sweetly, keeping his tone friendly as brotherly like he always used to.

Rusu froze for a second as she was addressed by her old friend, biting her lip nervously she turned around and offered a fake smile as to not hurt his feeling, saying “Y-yeah! Just trying to get comfy” she laughed lamely.

She quickly turned away again, trying not to freak out over how damn HUGE he was!!!
‘Stupid giants and their sizes!’ her mind squeaked, her face flushing deep red.
Again, Rusu tried to scramble closer to Martin but he already held out his other hand infront of her by the time she got there, blocking her off.

Rusu was shocked!

He never treated her this way, Martin was always so sweet and thoughtful of how he handled her, but now he was not even glancing down at her even once!

“Martin!” she yelled up at him finally, she squeaked when she saw him flinch violently before blinking down at her in what looked like utter confusion.

“Yes?” he asked her casually, the hand that was blocking her slowly fell away as he pet her back with his thumb.

“I..umh..can I sit on your other knee? Its more comfortable” she fibbed, wringing her hands together nervously.

Martin sighed gently, the warm gust of air sweeping over her and blowing her hair back.

“Okay angel” he smiled more sweetly as he gently picked her up again, pinching her middle between his thumb and fore-finger and deposited her on his other leg, feeling her instantly scramble up his denim-clad jeans to his torso and practically bury herself in the fabric of his shirt.

Martin bit his lip, trying to not feel guilty at his previous actions.... he felt more and more like a monster...

But, as he reminded himself, he was only trying to help and do what was best for HER...

Rusu had no idea if her family was giants or not, what if they were?

Surely she couldn’t spend the rest of her life hiding from them in fear...could she?
Martin accessed this was for her own good, she had to get used to other giants that weren’t him.

About an hour into the movie, Rusu’s focus on Jake faded more and more as her eyes stayed trained to the flashing images on the gigantic television, one of the few perks from not getting the growth virus like her now gigantic fiancé and friend.

-BRRVVVMMM!-

Both Jake and Rusu were startled out of their TV trance as the vibrating of a phone sounded from Martin’s jeans, followed by his bleeping ring-tone.

Martin purposely kept his cell phone at a much lower volume than usual in case the loud volume hurt Rusu’s ears, not wanting to take the risk, knowing at her small size things affected her more.

“Sorry guys” Martin grunted a-bit as he shifted his hold on Rusu to dig his phone out of his back pocket.

Seeing an open opportunity, Martin gently placed Rusu on Jake’s lap and quickly slipped away, a hurried ‘sorry gotta take this!’ was all he managed before disappearing off into the next room.

Rusu was shocked at how quickly her fiancé was, it was always surprising to her how such huge beings could be so impossibly fast, she didn’t even have time to protest.
She began mumbling curses under her breathe toward Martin as he vanished, hiding her face with her hair nervously.

Jake noticed the shivering little human on his lap and bit his lip, taking the remote-control from Martin’s seat to pause the TV.

“Hey? You okay? He asked her gently, big brown eyes softening gently at the sight of her trembling.

Rusu sighed, her shoulders slumping a-bit...

‘Come on stupid, you can’t be scared of him forever’ her stubborn pride reminded her, even if at the same time her brain also was screaming at her to run away from such a huge being that could crush you on accident.

“Y-yeah...I’m... I’m sorry Jake, I know this is hard on you too...” she finally breathed out, swallowing a lump in her throat as she forced herself to look up at him.

“I know I shouldn’t act like a scared little mouse, I’m sure you’re weirded out just as much” she managed a weak chuckle. This was so awkward.

Jake grinned slightly, proud to see she was opening up a little to him.

“Na man, don’t be that way. Were the ones that grew, so technically WE are the freaks here” he reminded her.

After all, he did have a valid point...it was not Rusu that changed.

“Guess you gotta point there... but when the majority of humanity grows to be giants and humans are the odd ones out? You kinda get a different perspective” she explained, surprised at how relaxed she suddenly felt getting that out in the open.


But the fact of the matter was, the giants were bigger than the humans and could do anything they liked, the number of humans dwindled and the remaining humans were sold and kept as pets for giants.

Rusu was lucky that Jacob and Martin found her when they did, even if it did mean nine months of utter torture and hell in a pet store.

Martin learned fairly quickly not to ask Rusu about what had occurred in the months before he found her, it was a fairly touchy subject.

Rusu pushed those memories far from her mind, it is all she could do to cope while she was living with a giant fiancé.

She had to remind herself that Martin was the man she loved, that Jacob was once her dearest friend and brotherly figure.

It was the only thing keeping her rooted in place and not running for the nearest cover.

“Your time in that place must have been awful, I can’t say I blame you for being scared” Jake spoke, the vibrations of his voice shaking her to her very core and disturbing her from the gloomy thoughts her mind had taken.

“It’s... getting better” Rusu spoke loud enough for him to hear, she was being honest there. It really was.

She was no longer shaking as she sat on Jake’s leg, waiting for Martin to return.
Rusu could suddenly see why Martin had orchestrated this whole plan and she had to admit to herself, he was right.
